Using well-loved Malay folk songs, L.I.T! is designed to build vocabulary skills, develop the ability to think creatively and challenging students to use the newly learned words in many ways possible. Students will also have fun learning the basics of music through understanding melody and rhythm.
This programme also imparts moral values and life skills as students explore the theme of the selected song. Students will work in groups to create a word bank and put up a classroom performance of their song.
Each class will receive a WORD BANK BOX that they can keep in their class! Whenever they learn a new word in class, write on a paper, drop it in the box!

*This programme is suitable for Primary 1 & 2 students.

MTL FORTNIGHT - RENTAK MUZIK KITA!
Programme 1: Introduction to Malay Traditional Beats & Rhythm (Dance)
A captivating and interactive 1-hour programme designed to introduce students to the rich cultural tapestry of Malay traditional music through its diverse dance forms. The program focuses on the exploration and celebration of five fundamental Malay dance genres: Inang, Zapin, Joget, Asli, and Masri. The heart of the program lies in the hands-on experience offered to students. Participants will have the opportunity to physically try and explore the dynamics and styles of each dance genre under the guidance of experienced instructors. Through step-by-step demonstrations, students will learn the basic movements, postures, and gestures that define each dance form, fostering a sense of connection and appreciation for the intricate artistry embedded in Malay dance. Students will gain valuable insights into the traditional beats and rhythms that accompany each dance genre, understanding how music plays a pivotal role in expressing emotions and storytelling within the Malay cultural context.

With his two decades of experience in the field, Hyrul will delve into his own musical journey, providing a glimpse into his journey and evolution within the context of Singapore’s Malay music industry. In this 1-hour programme, students can anticipate an insightful overview of the industry's nuances and highlights, adding a personal touch to the discussion. Furthermore, he will also share a fascinating insight into the world of Malay traditional music, which is valuable knowledge that needs to be passed to the younger generation. Students can expect to be introduced to the basic rhythms that form the foundation of this rich musical heritage, creating an immersive experience for all participants. To enhance the interactive nature of the session, the speaker has a unique plan to bring in a Rebana player. This live musical element will allow students to connect with the basic beats of their heritage in a tangible and memorable way. The Rebana player will showcase the rhythmic intricacies of traditional music, making the learning experience both enjoyable and educational.
